Political economy is the study of political science and economics, focused on economic systems and the way public policy (government) shapes them. Political economy can also generally describe a state (e.g. a country or nation's) economy: for instance, the 'American political economy.'

In the United States, the political economy of choice (by politicians and corporate billionaires) is (neoliberal) capitalism.
